Midland Photo Club Captures Equine Assisted Therapy at H3

Earlier this summer we discovered Midland’s own Sibley Nature Center Photo Club. The camera club captures the beauty within the Midland area, so we were honored they agreed to come see our lovely horses and riders in action. We enjoyed showing them the ranch and introducing them to the concept of Equine Assisted Therapy, which included an up close introduction to the horses, of course our amazing volunteers, and some great new riders and their families.

Although it was a scorching day the photographers were able to grab some great shots of our horse partners, the riders, and the lesson. We started the day with a quick free-run to get the jitters out. The H3 horses didn’t disappoint and we got some great shots of them chasing each other through the arena. After the run, they stuck around to capture our riders on their new friends and caught some wonderfully inspiring moments.

This day was a special lesson since our riders were relative newbies. Both of them did amazing and rewarded us with smiles all day. Braylyn and Marissa rode Venus and Toby, while supported on all sides by our great volunteers. Braylyn started grasping the reins near the end of the lesson, and Marissa finished the lesson with the biggest hug to her partner Toby. Afterwards they helped us brush all of H3’s horses and treated them with a few carrot treats to say Thank you.

Braylyn’s mom has since told us that the lesson helps with Braylyn’s attention span, focus, general stability in walking, and course it brings her great joy every ride. Both Braylyn and Marissa are a joy to have at the ranch and we can’t help but fill with pride when we see them riding so well.

We greatly appreciated the camera club coming out and grasping not only the horses’ natural beauty and presence, but also the special heartwarming moments that make providing Equine Assisted Therapy to our riders so personal to us.

If you’re interested in learning more about joining the Sibley Nature Center Photo Club they meet the 1st Saturday of the month at 10AM. They welcome members of all skill levels. The club is lead by volunteers with each meeting featuring tips, presentations and ideas for capturing the best photo.
